Hire car

Journey time: approx 2.5 hours

Although Melana can be reached by coach, and during the summer months, by hydrofoil from Athens-Piraeus, car hire is strongly recommended. We can arrange for a hire car firm to meet you at the airport.

From Athens Venezelos Airport, take the new ‘Attiki Odos’ (E65) motorway, via Corinth, into the heart of the Peloponnese. From there, a stunning coastal road takes you to the village.

Coach

Journey time: approx 3.5 to 4 hours

Catch a bus from Athens Venezelos airport to Athens bus station then a coach to Leonidio. Alternatively, catch an ‘express’ bus to Argos and connect with a slower local bus that stops at Melana. 

Hydrofoil

Journey time: approx 4 hours

An exhilarating and memorable way to travel to Melana is to catch the hydrofoil from Athens’ famous Piraeus port. Boats leave three or four times a week but please note that the service is only available during summer months. The hydrofoil docks at various Greek islands before arriving at your destination port of Leonidion (Plaka).
